Hot and in-form striker Peter Keyes notched a precious match winner in the 71st minute as he raced away from two defenders to latch onto a long clearance from his defender and slipped the ball under the advancing Dwayne Miller in goal.

The intense battle for supremacy was unfolding momentarily as each gladiator toiled gallantly to overthrow his foe with shots full of evil intent to strike down its target.

Rafief Thomas was the first to miss a glorious opportunity to score as his header from 8 yards flew over the crossbar. It was the first of three chances he had to convert on a night he would soon want to forget in a hurry.

Thomas missed another sitter before halftime and would repeat the error midway the second half before being thankfully relieved of his duties by the Coach, who accepted the inevitable fact that the usually dependable young striker could not even buy a goal on that night.

Marcelino Blackburn held his head in disbelief as his shot was saved by custodian Porter, who was simply brilliant on the night.

Lovel Palmer’s fierce right-footer from just inside the goal area had goal written all over it as it sailed pass Porter only to hit the legs of retreating defender Garfield Gillespie in the 56th minute.

George Vernal adapted well to his midfield role as marshal and was enjoying his distributing to twin

strikers Keyes and Denzil Watson, while occasionally striking from distance and on one effort went fairly close from 25 yards in minute 64, as the shot slammed into the perimeter signboards behind the western goal.

Minute 76 – Substitute Kemeel Wolfe drifted away from the attending player to sneak in a teasing shot bouncing in front and across the diving Kirk Porter whose flicked it wide for a corner with his left hand as to deviate from its target air-marked inside the far upright.

Watson broke free late in the game but as he weaved his way inside the two Harbour View defenders, goalkeeper Miller was quickest to grab the ball at his feet to avert danger.

The last gasp effort of Jomo Gordon to rescue a point was again blunted by Kirk Porter in goal as the jubilant “Red Brigade” walked away with the prized scalp of the “Stars of the East” and enjoyed the taste of sweet revenge to close the gap with the leaders.
