The Reggae Boyz yesterday made hard work of it, but still managed to beat a Trelawny All-Stars team 3-1 in another of their practice games ahead of their departure for a friendly international against Trinidad and Tobago in the twin-island republic.

Kavin Bryan opened the scoring for the locally based Reggae Boyz in the 32nd minute before substitutes Navion Boyd in the 80th and Andrae Campbell in the 90th added some respectability to the score. Ricardo

Reid pulled one back from the penalty spot for the Trelawny team conditioned by Larry Allen and assisted by Dwight Jeremiah and Elvis Hart. Differing halves While acknowledging that the display was not the best from his charges, coach Theodore Whitmore saw enough positives in the game. “It was a practice game in which we looked at a number of players, so both halves would not have looked the same,” Whitmore said of the game which featured a much-improved second half which had nine changes for the Reggae Boyz. “I think it was a fairly good workout and a chance to look at a number of players. We have a game coming up against Trinidad and Tobago, so it is continuous preparation.

The Digicel Caribbean Cup is coming up so it was also another opportunity to look at players,” Whitmore added. Boyz the better players The Reggae Boyz were the better team throughout, as they possessed the ball much better and moved it around with purpose, even though they failed to make their better play count. For their part, the Trelawny All-Stars showed glimpses of good quality but played more as individuals.

Bryan put the Reggae Boyz ahead from a goal-mouth mêlée, but the two remaining strikes which sandwiched Reid’s strike were beautifully constructed and converted. Boyd, after coming close minutes earlier, steered home a left-footer on the half-volley after a perfect cross from fellow substitute Rafe Wolfe. Following a foul on Bryan to the right of the 18-yard box, Campbell curled a delightful left-footer into the top left-hand corner of the net after the ball was played off to him by Boyd. That strike did more than enough to erase any memories of his handball, just under 10 minutes earlier, which allowed Reid to beat substitute goalkeeper Randal Huie from the penalty spot.
