Marcelino Blackburn scored twice, once in each half, to register a vital 2-0 victory away in Falmouth at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
First, he converted in minute 27, after Kemar Petrekin skillfully controlled a high cross from Captain, Lovel Palmer, “Petro“ dribbled by two defenders to cut back in Blackburn’s path for him to tuck it inside the near post as all the opponents drifted to the other side.
In the 7th minute, Jermaine Hue in his first start of the season, evaded two defenders down the left to slip a neat pass inside to Andre Fagan about the penalty spot but his weak shot was bounced down by the goalkeeper, Elvis Hart as Petrekin rushed in to bundle it over the goal line, he was called for a foul and no goal, was signaled by the Referee.
The blustery cross field windy conditions, on the large surface, proved trying as always but the Harbour View midfield full of mature players Palmer, Hue and Richard Edwards managed the adverse conditions well assisted by the heavy running by Blackburn, Fagan balanced by Petrekin’s sharp ball handling and possesional skills and crisp finishing.
A more combative Village United unit turned up the competitive heat in the second half but were burnt late in the game as Blackburn, from being fouled outside the area delivered a telling spot kick to score his second goal in minute 82, to seal the game for the visitors but with the assistance of a goalkeeper’s handling error by Hart.
HVFC remained in a close up third position on 19 points from 10 games, 2 points behind St. George’s and 4 behind Tivoli Gardens, with the final game in Round One on Wednesday away to Arnett Gardens FC at 6pm.
