The Regional Club Competitions History:
The historical significance of the longest running Caribbean Club Competition since 1978 is known for its competitive standard.
Jamaica’s Harbour View FC first participated in 1986.
On Friday, November 17th 2007, Jamaica’s Harbour View FC claimed their second Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship after defeating Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 2:1 in the final at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad.
The only Jamaican Club to ever achieve the feat of winning this competition twice and winning it in Trinidad was a bonus.
The second Caribbean crown earned Harbour View FC the berth to the 2008 CONCACAF Champions Cup™ quarterfinals played earlier this year in March against DC United and the newly created and improved 2008 CONCACAF Champions™ League™ scheduled to begin on August 28, 20008 in Jamaica against PUMAS UNAM of Mexico.
The New Competitions Structure:
Preliminary & Group Stages for 2008 CONCACAF Champions™ League
The Preliminary Round between sixteen (16) Clubs will result in eight (8) winners who advance to a Group Stage where they will be joined by eight (8) seeded Clubs to make Four (4) Groups of Four (4) Clubs, they play each other Home and away in six (6) games before the top two (2) from each Group advances.
Each quarterfinal home-and-away series fixtures for the 2008 CONCACAF Champions League™ are set with the first-legs scheduled for Auggust 28 at the Harbour View Stadium, where the 2007 CFU Caribbean Club Champions Harbour View FC host Mexican League leaders Pumas UNAM with the return match on Thursday, September 4, 2008 in Mexico at 10pm.
Winners only advance to the semifinals and Finals played on a monthly basis between February and May 2009, with the winner also qualifying to the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2010 in November.
The 2008 CONCACAF Champions™ League™ will be broadcast LIVE (but not in Jamaica) on television to over 178 Countries worldwide, by the Fox Sports World International regional programming channels (Fox Soccer Channel USA; Fox Sports en Español USA; Fox Sports Latin America Northern Cone Caribbean, Central America & Mexico).
