After arriving in Cayman at 10am as the first visiting team, we were met by the tournament organisers, liaison officer, Lauren Hew, and Nark Campbell, our direct Jamaican/Cayman correspondent, to take team photos.
We boarded and were seated on the two 28-seater coaster buses, driven by Dennis Smith, who introduced himself as “The Champions’ Driver” followed by him showing his many medals won. Traveled to pick up food items at Grace Foods outlet, our associate sponsor, courtesy of Ms Jasmine Freyn. Later, partners Lucozade Sport delivered re-hydration fluids and cases of Ribena to our camp site temporary home at the Agricultural Pavilioned Complex, similar to where Jamaica has the annual Denbigh Show. CostLess Mart was visited, along with a supermarket and Captain’s Bakery, to purchase added food supplies, fruits and necessities for cooking.
A technical meeting and briefing were had and ground rules laid out as we explored our camp site. The boys marveled at the large iguanas we saw on the huge two-acre property we inhabited. On-site training ensued from 4-6pm before a sumptuous chicken, fish and vegetarian dinner was delivered by our local restaurant caterers. After bathing, cots were streamlined, and daily groups of three persons to assist with cleaning, serving and leading were delegated.
A 9:30pm handover of all electronic gadgets is supervised by dormitory supervisor/manager, Michael Jackson. Lights out at 10pm.
