Striker Brian Brown looked like his old self on Sunday night as he marked his return to the Harbour View Stadium with one goal as the ‘Stars of the East’ recorded a rare win, 3-1 over Cavalier.
The 2013-14 Golden Boot winner, who had 18 goals that season, had his 57th-minute goal sandwiched by Jorginho James’ 52nd-minute opener and substitute Kevaughn Frater’s 88th-minute finish, helping to bring back the attacking presence Harbour View lacked for most of the season.
As he did in that season, Brown made it clear that he is ready to shoulder the attacking burden of his team.
“Coming home to help Harbour View get to the top of the table and, hopefully, win the championship is where my mind is at right now, and then we will see what happens from there,” said the player who spent the last season and a half on loan to MLS club Philadelphia Union and NASL team Indy Eleven, respectively.
Sunday night’s win followed four previous matches which were divided equally between draws and losses and helped them to narrow the gap on fourth-placed Humble Lion to two points, while keeping them firmly in fifth.
The vanquished Cavalier, on the other hand, who were let down by uncharacteristically poor defending, slipped a position to seventh as they were overtaken by UWI FC.
The last season, Brown said, was not the greatest for him, and the rest of the season at Harbour View will be used to rebuild his game and confidence.
“It wasn’t one of the greatest seasons for me, but going there (Indy Eleven) was a great experience. I learnt a lot. I played about 24 games and scored five goals.
“The aim right now is to get back sharp, rebuild myself one step at a time, day by day and get my fitness up, and everything else will follow,” said the player who has been capped once by the national team.
After the Indy Eleven season, Harbour View was what Brown needed.
“I am great here. Harbour View is my home. It is not hard for me to fit in. These are guys I have played with before, mostly, and I have a great relationship with them, and to deliver in front of my home fans in only my second game back was special.
“I plan to get one goal a game for the remaining games in the competition. I know I am one behind that target now, but I can catch up,” the player, who is eyeing more national caps, stated confidently.
