We always wish our athletes the best at the 31st Olympics and our two former youth players, Harbour View resident O’Dayne Richards in the shot put and first time olympian, 400 metres hurdler, Jaheel Hyde.
O’Dayne Richards, along with sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brwn, has been named captain for Jamaica’s team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He is the national record holder with a mark of 21.69m, and has lifted Jamaica’s standing in the shot put field event after winning a bronze medal at last year’s World Championships in Beijing, China. He also has acquired 4 gold medals, at Pan Am Games (2015), Commonwealth Games (2014), and CAC Championships (2011 & 2013).
Defending 400m hurdle champion Jaheel Hyde qualified for the Olympic Games after finishing second at the National Senior Championships in 48.81 seconds, and later became the first male in history to retain his title in the event when he cruised to the gold medal in 49.03 seconds at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships. The 19 -year-old is a two-time World Junior champion, World Youth champion, Youth Olympic Games winner, and a World Junior Championships bronze medalist.
