At the end of round 1, Kevaughn Frater has so far had a bright start to the his premier league season. Following his advancement from the midfield to the front line, he has racked up 5 goals, including a hat trick, to currently position himself as the team’s leading goal scorer and among the top 5 in the league. His season highlights seem to have just begun, as he was recently called to the national senior squad at a crucial time, as the Reggae Boyz will continue to fight for a spot in Russia 2018. The semi-final round of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers kicks off this Friday against Panama at the National Stadium in Jamaica.
Kevaughn has been called for national duties before, at the under-23 level twice, including being a part of the travelling CFU Olympic Qualifiers squad though he didn’t get any playing time on the pitch. “Just being there hoping and waiting to get a chance felt really great, being a part of a wonderful team with such competence” he stated about his under-23 experience.
This is his first call up to the national senior team. “I’m elated, it’s a positive feeling knowing I’ve been putting in the hard work so I have to keep focused, remain humble and grab at the opportunity” said the enthusiastic 20 year old.
Following Friday’s game, the Boyz are slated to depart on Saturday for Haiti for their second group game next Tuesday. The group is completed by Costa Rica, and only the top two teams will advance to the final round set to start next November.
