Newly-promoted Portmore United hosted us at Juici Park in Clarendon. The celebrations started early for the Harbour View players and supporters at the visiting ground after Kevaughn Frater nodded home a left-sided corner kick by Keammar Daley in only the second minute of play. A few minutes shy of half time, Frater swooped in to collect the ball from a through pass by John-Ross Edwards in the middle of the pitch, run wide and find the far post to give us a 2 goal advantage going into the second half.
After resuming play, Portmore United started off looking more threatening. The intensity of the game built with Portmore applying pressure to our defensive line, and a few lost chances including clearing the ball before crossing the goal line, had the resident supporters holding their heads. Their enthusiasm and energy seemed to dwindle as the game went on, allowing us to regain control.
Frater then went ahead to get around two defenders which were marking him in the box, beat the goalkeeper and get his hat trick in the 78th minute, tallying his 5th goal of the season and putting him at the top of the team’s scorer list. He smiled, he danced, he ran to the sidelines to celebrate with supporters, technical staff and teammates. Here’s what he had to say….
Have you ever scored a hat trick?
KF: “I have, at the under-20 level.”
How do you feel about scoring your first hat trick at the senior level?
KF: “I feel really great… it’s a wonderful feeling to score a hat trick as we’ve been putting in the work. Just one of many to come!”
Why do you think you are able to score more frequently this season?
KF: “I’m a bit more focused and mature and also closer to the goal, and the reason for that is my physical and technical ability.”
How do you plan to further improve as the season goes on?
KF: “I plan to improve a lot more, by scoring more goals and creating more opportunities for my teammates.”
What’s your ultimate goal for yourself?
KF: “My ultimate goal is to continue to be the humble young man that I am and further my career on the international stage. With determination, humility, hard work and 110% attitude and the guidance of God, He will work wonders for me to come.”
What response do you have to any doubters?
KF: “The ones who love me are the ones who motivate me. If it’s negative, it doesn’t really affect me.”
Well done Frater, well done team.
