Following a successful trial in the summer of last year, Martin Davis was enrolled to the Toronto FC (TFC) Academy team in January, the youth academy and development system of Canadian Major League Soccer club, Toronto FC. Martin left Jamaica as one of two international recruits on the team’s Premier Development League (PDL) roster, the other being from Nicaragua.

The academy was among 10 new / returning teams to the USA’s top-level men’s amateur soccer competition, with the regular season beginning on May 2 and ending on July 19. He highlighted his season performance by scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists. TFC Academy finished up their inaugural PDL season with a record of 3 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws over 14 matches to finish 4th in their division.

He also played in League1 Ontario (L1O), a semi-professional men’s and women’s soccer league in Ontario, Canada and is sanctioned as the third tier of the Canadian soccer pyramid. It comprised of 12 teams in the men’s division for its second season this year.

Toronto FC Academy had an inconsistent first half to the season, winning only 3 of 12 matches, but after an astounding second half run of 10 wins in 10 matches the Junior Reds finished in 5th place on 40 points. The second-half turnaround boosted their rankings, giving them the second best offensive record in the league, and the seventh best defensive record. They recorded 13 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw, with 61 goals for and 37 goals against. Davis was in-form, scoring once in each of the last 6 games, including a game-winner to end the season with a 2-1 victory over second-placed Woodbridge Strikers.

Well done Martin, keep aiming high.
