Former champion Harbour View repelled the challenges of three teams and secured the six spot at the end of the Red Stripe Premier League third round and will play the much-sought after “Elite football” for the fourth round.
Harbour View which started the day in six spot, defeated Sporting Central Academy 2-1 at Brancourt with a last minute strike from Jeremy Lynch in the 90+ minutes. Fabian Taylor had given Harbour View a 10th minute lead before Francois Swaby pulled Sporting Central levelled in the 53rd minute.
Harbour View ended the round on 46 points while Sporting Central are ninth with 41 points and will play among the relegation battlers.
At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, the visiting Montego Bay United clipped home team Arnett Gardens 2-1 and leapfrogged them into seventh spot on 44 points while the “Junglist” slipped to eighth on 42 points.
Former Arnett striker Omar Gordon found the winner for Montego Bay in the 85th minute after Jonathan Williams had cancelled out Graeme Green’s 29th minute opener.
Meanwhile leader Portmore United saw their lead reduced to 10 points after playing to a 2-2 draw with cellar team Village United battled at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.
Portmore United inched to 64 points and closer to the title with only five games remaining while Village United inched to 25 points and closer to relegation.
Ronaldo Rodney gave Village United a 31st before a double strike by Portmore’s Alanzo Adlam in the 36th and 38th minutes gave the visitors the advantage. But Cordel Simpson earned a share of the points for Village United from the penalty spot in the 44th minute.
At Frome, Reno earned a precious point in their relegation fight after holding champion Tivoli Gardens to a 0-0 draw. Reno moved to 26 points but still remained in the relegation zone in 11th place and with a six point gap to safety, the former champions have some work to do.
For Tivoli Gardens, this result effectively ended their title hopes as they stayed in fifth spot on 51 points but are trailing the leader by 13 points with a possible 15 points to gain from five matches.
Both Waterhouse and Humble Lion’s chances were dashed also after nullifying each other in a 1-1 draw at Effortville Community Centre.
The competition’s leading goal scorer, Jermaine “Tuffy” Anderson gave Waterhouse a 31st minute lead with his 13 goal of the season. Wolry Wolfe equalised for Humble Lion in the 57th minute.
Waterhouse dropped a spot to third on 52 points and are 14 points adrift of the leader while Humble Lion are fourth on 51 points still fighting for that top-two position.
Boys’ Town regained second spot on 54 points after an own goal by Kevin Williams 45th minute gave them a 1-0 win over Highgate United at Lynch Park.
St Mary outfit Highgate, in their first season in the premier league, remained n 10t spot on 32 points and are six points above the relegation zone with five games to survive, they look safe.
