CONCACAF Local Organizational Committee planned a 3 hour tour of the historic 105,000 seater, Azteca Stadium this morning until midday to expose the players, Coaches and Managers to the rich history of one the greatest sporting arenas in this Confederation, which hosted two FIFA World Cups in 1970 and again in 1986.
Two of the greatest players ever graced these hallowed walls in Pele and Maradona. Special visitors were also The Pope and ‘The Gloved Wonder’ Michael Jackson, amongst other great entertainers, players and dignitaries. It remains the home ground of Mexican and CONCACAF Champions Leagues, Club America.
The Boys dreamed of attaining those supreme heights, someday.
HVFC finished 3rd in Zone B with 3 points, behind Canadian leaders Montreal Impact (9 points) and second placed Aguilas UAS of Mexico (6 points), both top two clubs advanced to the semifinals today. DC United finished 4th without a point.
SEMIFINAL RESULTS:
Zone A leaders, Touluca of Mexico knocked out their country rivals Aguilas UAS by 3-0 to go to tomorrows final against the El Salvador youngsters who walked over Montreal by a similar scoreline to make it an all Zone A Final.
HVFC played a casual international friendly losing 2-3 to Panama’s Cheepo as both squads played everyone available in an effort to entertain player development and participation in good fun on and off the field.
DC UNITED defeated Costa Rica by 3-0 in another friendly.
Saturday’s Final Day will be guided by CONCACAF at tonight’s dinner where the youngsters are getting to know and enjoy their new foreign based friends company, more and more.
