Waterhouse goalkeeper Richard McCallum was seemingly in a generous mood as he handed Jermie Lynch an early Christmas gift for which the striker gladly accepted when he tapped home in the 22nd minute to seal a 2-0 win for Harbour View in their Red Stripe Premier League game at Compound on Sunday.

McCallum allowed a cross from Damarley Oliver to fall from his grasp, presenting the easiest of chances for Lynch to convert in this Yuletide season.

For the first goal, McCullum could only watch in awe as a sublime freekick from Nicholas Beckett gave him no chance in the ninth minute.

It was an efficient display from Harbour View, who confirmed their superiority over Waterhouse this season following a 2-1 victory on September 28. It was Harbour View’s seventh win of the campaign and they moved into third spot on 26 points.

Waterhouse, who have not won in their last four games, were suffering their third defeat of the season and slipped a spot to second on 28 points.

Waterhouse were left cursing their luck after missing several goal-scoring chances, and their main tormentor was goalkeeper Levor Williams, who thwarted many of those attempts.

Winning coach Andrew Hines said his team was happy for the positive result.

“We want to win every game. We are not going to sit back and say a point is better than no point at all… we have to beat everybody in front of us to stay in contention for the play-off and this is one of the teams in front of us and we are looking forward to the next,” Hines told the Jamaica Observer.

“Every game is important; every game we are looking to take that three points,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Waterhouse assistant coach Marcel Gayle said his team was unfortunate not to come away with the win.

“I think we outplayed Harbour View today (Sunday), it was unfortunate we went two goals down and we were looking for that elusive goal and didn’t get it,” he said.

Waterhouse, who led most of the season, were replaced at the top of the standings by champions Montego Bay United, but Gayle was unperturbed. “This is not a league format so I am not worried right now.”
