In a exhilarating performance that signifies what many openly stated as the “Best Game this Season”, host Harbour View FC were in spectacular form to embarrass the visitors from Portland by a 5-0 score-line that emphasized the full scale dominance of the “Stars of the East” under the chilly Christmas night skies.
Coach, Jeffery Maxwell was at his usual best in his three week pre-match prelude in all the public Sports Media, bragging how great he was with an overwhelming record of victory against HVFC but as always has no real record to prove what his lips utter.
He continued his monologue stating any team he has will beat Harbour View anytime, not stopping there he scolded Harbour View about their principled position taken on the mysterious absence of National Player, Jermaine Taylor from not honouring his 3 year contract with his Club, seemingly in support of the players evasive action, despite the ruling of Jamaican Football governing body, the JFF, since early September 2008?
As the game tends to do throughout history, it played itself out on the field, the score says everything and the usually chatty Maxwell was silenced into deep submission throughout the game and thereafter, only as usual blaming his midfielders and goalkeeper in post match interviews…wow, we are all surprised!
Enough said about nothings, we focus on the real game on the pitch with the players.
Minute 9 – Lance Laing’s cross from the left is fumbled by the goalkeeper who also fails in his second attempt to recover before Kavin Bryan blasts it into the roof of the net from 17 yards to lead 1-0.
The goalkeeper never really recovers from the spillage and so too the highly hyped squad as HVFC applies the intense pressure early from all angles as shots rain down on goal but not further breach results.
Halftime 1-0.
Second half is launched with a 47 minute strike as the young emerging defender, Dicoy Williams out-jumps the crowd to head home from Jermaine Hue’s corner.
Minute 58 – The goal of the game unfolds as a six piece combination is bounced around various points of the St. Georges SC half before Laing’s cross is deflected by Bryan into the path of Marcelino Blackburn who volleys home from 16 yards to stun the visitors into absolute depression.
The kickoff that follows has only four players near the halfline as all other remain in defensive mode in anticipation of another attacking surge.
Coach Maxwell is quiet, as he stares across the field.
Minute 67 – Kavin Bryan enters the right-side of the penalty area to rifle his shot into the far corner and register his second on the night 4-0.
The LIVE Radio Broadcasters are thrilled at the magnificent display on and off the ball movement and coordination that scintillates the stadium, as the crowd roars in approval.
Minute 88 – Not to be outdone, the ever reliable Lovel Palmer has the last word as he dashes into the newly exploited area of weakness on the right flank to slam home another scorcher in so doing advances his goal-scoring tally to seven.
The host accepts applause from around the ground as they depart the field, leading the League on 29 points.
