A double strike by Jamahli Spence lead the defending U21 League Champions, Harbour View FC to their first End of Round Championship title after the third attempt yesterday, as they trounced the Claredonians by 3-0 in a blazing first half display.
John-Ross Edwards, the leading goal-scorer for the team this season added the third goal in the 37th minute when he headed in an accurate right-sided cross from 10 yards, he separated the brace of Spence in minutes 7 and 45.
The early unslaught was launched and an initial insurgence should have been rewarded when the corner was floated over to one of the leading goalscorers, Jaron “JJ” Richards who missed from two yards almost on the goal-line as he headed over the crossbar, as the ball hit the top of his head rather than his forehead.
Harbour View FC looked hungry as the moved decisively forward with clear intentions to win. The early goal added to their adrenaline rush and they kicked on to higher gear as the able Sporting Central Academy held their ground firmly but eventually were undone by good team play as a five man combination found Spence in between defenders as he controlled well on his thigh then lashed it into the corner pocket of the goal.
The gate opened and the push followed by the young “Stars of the East” and Edwards and Spence capitalized twice late in the half to take a commanding three goal lead at the break.
Alert goalkeeper by Marvin Mundy, showing his extremely high proficiency by his stints at centre-forward as his nibble foot skills served him and his team well, his fast hands were also in evidence with his smart decision making at important moments.
The second half had Sporting Central better organization coming out but Mundy in coordination with Captain, Montrose Phinn and Richards with the defensive force blunted their dangerous approaches.
A late opportunity by Edwards was saved and the score remained the same, before the JFF Officials presented the Trophy to the happy youngsters who celebrated wildly.
The Third and final Round resumes next Friday with a full slate of six games islandwide.
