HARBOUR View FC joined Arnett Gardens FC as the most successful clubs of the top Corporate Area knockout tournament when they toiled to a 5-3 penalty win over bitter rivals Boys’ Town at the Stadium East field on Wednesday night.

After locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation and extra time, Harbour View were perfect from the 12-yard mark with five strikes to give them their sixth title — same as Arnett — of the KSAFA/Yellow Pages Jackie Bell KO.

Christopher Harvey, Nicholas Beckett, Jaron Richards, Kemeel Wolfe and Richard Edwards were on target for the ‘Stars of the East’, while Asrick Samuels, Renae Lloyd and Marvin Morgan Jnr beat opposing goalkeeper Michaud Barrett.

Boys’ Town goalkeeper Kirk Porter agonisingly skied his effort.

Scoring during freeflow, were John Ross-Edwards who opened for Harbour View in the 14th minute, but Boys’ Town rallied in the 45th through Shane Edwards to set the game alight.

At the end of regulation play, both teams were locked at one goal apiece forcing the game into extra time, but Harbour View substitute Kemeel Wolfe sparked a revival for his team with a well-taken goal in the 97th minute.

With Harbour View gaining a slight ascendancy, Marvin Morgan changed the script with an excellent right-footed low drive from 20 yards in the 109th minute that gave the sprawled-out Barrett no chance.

Harbour View coach Vin Blaine said the victory “was a sweet one” and will give his side momentum going into their Red Stripe Premier League game against Tivoli Gardens on Sunday.

He paid tribute to Boys’ Town for a well-fought match.

“Credit must go to Boys’ Town as they gave us a good fight… we scored early and then relaxed and they built up momentum and we couldn’t get them off their game,” said Blaine, who is also co-ordinator of the national women’s programme.

Boys’ Town’s Andrew Price rued losing his inspirational captain Michael Campbell early in the contest with a suspected fractured shoulder.

“It’s a major loss as he had to leave with a suspected shoulder fracture, but we have not heard anything from the hospital yet… also in warm-up one of our main players, Marvin Stewart, said he would not be able to play, so we did lose some major players,” said the former Boys’ Town star turned coach.

But Price was full of praise for the team that adapted well to the game despite losing key figures. “It showed me that our team has depth and character as the lads stood out there and fought very hard as we went behind twice and fought back… I must give them credit as they gave a good effort,” he said in a post-match interview.

With the score at 1-1, Boys’ Town had a glorious opportunity to snatch the victory late in the regulation spell when Lloyd got himself in a fantastic position after being fed a cross from the right side, but his tame reply was a letdown for fans.

WOLFE ON TARGET IN H VIEW’S KO TITLE WIN
Ryon Jones, Staff Reporter

Kemeel Wolfe scored his first goal in a final for Harbour View on Wednesday night to help them lift their sixth Kingston and St Andrew Football Association/Jamaica Yellow Pages Jackie Bell Knockout title at the expense of Boys’ Town in their matched played at Stadium East.

The game was decided on penalties with Harbour View prevailing 5-4 after the teams were locked at two goals apiece following the playing of full and extra time.

“Winning a title is always good, so I am very happy,” Wolfe, who was claiming his third knockout title, said. “And I feel good that I was able to contribute, but it was a team effort, as everybody pitched in even with encouraging words.”

Wolfe came on as a 63rd-minute substitute and scored what many thought was the winning goal in the 99th minute when he netted from four yards to give his team a 2-1 advantage after being expertly picked out by Jaron Richards with a 40-yard pass.

“Seeing the ball coming over I was praying that the defender would miss,” Wolfe reminisced. “My initial thought was to slot it home one time, but in a split second I thought I had more time when I saw the defender miss the ball.”

John Ross-Edwards had opened the scoring for Harbour View in the 14th minute when he blasted home from inside the area after being set up by Andre Fagan.

Shane Edwards pulled Boys’ Town level with a powerful volley in the second minute of first half added time.

Marvin Morgan Jr accounted for the Red Brigade’s second goal which he scored from the top of the area in the 110th minute to send the teams to the penalty spot.

HARD, LOW SHOT

Wolfe, who has been at Harbour View for five years after switching from Portmore United, was also one of the five players chosen by coach Vin Blaine and his staff to face Boys’ Town’s custodian, Kirk Porter, from 12 yards. The 29-year-old and his four teammates (Christopher Harvey, Nicholas Beckett, Jaron Richards, and Richard Edwards) expertly dispatched their penalties with Wolfe kicking his shot hard and low into the right corner of the goal.

“Before the game we did not practise penalty kicks, but whenever you are winning there is a level of confidence in each individual, so any five players could have stepped up and kicked on the day,” Wolfe reasoned.

Porter was the player responsible for Boys’ Town’s miss, as his team had to settle for the runners-up prize of $250,000. Harbour View walked away with the top cash prize of $350,000. Tivoli Gardens, the team Harbour View had defeated in the semi-final, was awarded the third-place prize of $150,000 while Boys’ Town’s semi-final opponents, Waterhouse, claimed the fourth-place prize of $100,000.
