ARNETT Gardens clipped Harbour View 1-0 in a hard-fought and bruising encounter in their opening game of the 2014/2015 Red Stripe Premier League at the Compound yesterday.

Young Michaelos Martin netted the all-important goal in the 17th minute, ghosting in at the near post to finish off Jameel Thompson’s left-sided cross.

The visitors had to survive an onslaught from Harbour View in the dying moments to secure victory, although they could have put the result beyond doubt on a few occasions earlier.

Arnett Gardens head coach Jerome Waite gave debuts to five of his new signings in Dicoy Williams, Marvin Morgan, Jameel Thompson, Steve Clarke and substitute Michael Webb, and he was understandably happy with the move and the three points.

“Congrats to the Arnett Gardens team because the Harbour View team put up a spirited performance and it was very tough. It wasn’t easy,” said Waite.

“But the Arnett Gardens team really came out with a purpose based on what we worked on in our training session (and) it came out in our game,” he added.

Harbour View also gave debuts to four players in Romario Campbell lookalike Shamar Brown, Ricardo Davis, Michael Hinds and Severo Murphy, the latter of Highgate fame.

Harbour View head coach Andrew Hines, though disappointed, was not perturbed by the loss. “It was a splendid performance… they (players) did well and showed good signs and encouragement,” said the former Camperdown High and Harbour View standout.
