Harbour View captain Jermaine Hue says despite his team being 16 points off leaders Portmore United, they are still hopeful of winning the Red Stripe Premier League.

The Stars of the East, who on Monday night played to a 0-0 draw with Tivoli Gardens at the Harbour View Stadium, lie in fifth position on 38 points, with Portmore on 54 points.

A total of 11 matches are left to be played.

“We have not given up on trying to win the title, as difficult as it may seem,” said the 33-year-old Hue.

“We have been in a position before whereby we were leading a team by 11 points at one stage in the season and they came back to win.

“We are, therefore, hoping to do something likewise … with maximum points in our remaining games being the main area of focus,” he remarked.

Hue, who was recently recalled to the Reggae Boyz team for friendly internationals against Cuba after being out of the national programme for close to five years, carried over his good form into the game on Monday.

However, in the end, it was not good enough to give his team the three points which they wanted on home soil.

Hue came close to scoring on two occasions. The first was in the 22nd minute when, given room on the edge of the penalty area to shoot, he put his shot just over the crossbar, much to the anguish of his Harbour View’s fans, who turned out in their numbers for the live, televised Monday Night Football game.

The second was a free kick on the half-hour mark, which brought out the best from goalkeeper Edsel Scott, who dived low to his left to effect the save.

Scott fell awkwardly and had to be treated three times by medical personnel following the save.

One spot up

Tivoli Gardens, with the result, inched one spot up to third on 43 points, the same as Boys’ Town, who have an inferior goal difference.

Tivoli Gardens captain Kasai Hinds said his team, too, were in with a shot at winning the title, despite trailing Portmore by 11 points.

“Portmore is still catchable, as anything can happen with 11 games remaining,” said Hinds.

“We were hoping to pick up three points here, and playing them next we were looking to cut their lead to six points.

“But it did not happen here today, and all we need to do is maintain our focus and try to win as much of our remaining games as possible,” Hinds pointed out.
