Harbour View’s ability to score last minute goals to steal a late result was again in evidence, as substitute Andre Whyte (87th) and Ondino Griffith’s penalty in the 89th were enough to draw by 2-2 after Arnett had scored twice earlier through Kenric Rodriques (30th) and Kowri Pickergill (82nd).
Premier League:
After the heated End Of First Round Finals between the two former Champions both returned in a more focussed frame of mind as the game started at a very high pace.
The hotly contested game was full of energy, fine touches, searching passes and shots on goal from around the penalty area.
At the halftime no goals yet but a lot of good football was enjoyed by the large crowd as “Tedo’s Chicken Soup” was lapped up and “Little Skills three Bars” and the new “Norwyn’s Far East Bar” was deeply involved in service throughout the interval as the Harbour View Cheerleaders danced joyfully announcing their weekend “Car Wash” to come on Saturday, following “Presi Masters Friday Fish Fry” on Friday afternoon at the Compound.
League Sponsors Wray & Nephew again voted Donovan DV Hayles as “Coach of the Month” for November 2005 completing the extra-ordinary feat of becoming the first ever three (3) consecutive winner for September, October and now November 2005. Congratulations Donovan. Marcelino Blackburn was also voted “Player of the Month” of November 2005. The Coaches Tactical awareness would shine through after team talks in the respective Locker Rooms.
What was to come was a revelation that all present in the stadium will never forget for their lifetime. Pace, acceleration and sharp shooting at goals by the motivated Harbour View League leaders would display an exhibition of talent under pressure that the pro Harbour View patrons longed for.
It started when Kevin King deflected a Nicholas Dodd right-sided cross towards the far post only to see the diving Julian McKliesh parry beyond his post for a corner. The resulting corner was also well defended. Then in minute 63 a second corner was achieved by the “Stars of the East” once again on the left, quickly Luton Shelton dashed across to assist Loxely Thomas with a short corner as the Arnett Gardens defenders reacted slowly and sent only one defender who was confused by the sharp inter passing that made Thomas dart goalwards, as he tackled to trip up Thomas inside the Penalty box for Referee Hughill Thompson to indicate a penalty kick. Shelton drove powerfully to secure the games first goal and his sixth of this leagues campaign.
Seemingly a bit relaxed at the heart of the Harbour View defence Arnett fought back manfully to earn three half chances within ten minutes but none were good enough to trouble goalkeeper Ryan Thompson. Coaches Hayles and Barrington “Cobra” Gaynor blurted out corrective instructions to the players as the awaken from their slumber to resume the attacking play based on heavy running off the ball. It paid off quickly.
Arguably one of the best goals of the season rivalling Gregory Simpson’s killer blow, the senior statesman Donald “Foulie” Stewart dribbled forward across the centre circle unmolested, then surprise, surprise.
He launched the most ferocious left footed drive in minute 77, from 35 yards out to defeat a flying Julian “Rammie” McKliesh as it hit the back right upright and in so doing hit the life out of a struggling Arnett contingent as the crowd erupted in wild frenzy Donald fell to the ground in utter disbelief of what seemed a supershot that he tried in training but has never achieved in a competitive game. It was a goal of a lifetime and the entire team piled up on top of him to show appreciation as the crowd stood up to applaud the mini-miracle. From then on he could do no wrong as the crowd cheered his every touch.
Harbour View’s spirit soared as Arnett’s dropped apart and slick passing, teasing runs and delicate dribbles were on show as “The Stars of the East” paraded the skills elaborately from a position of dominance.
The killer blow would come late in minute 90 and time added on when Shelton out worked a defender to cross from the left finding substitute Richard West about the penalty spot to out manoeuvre his marking before slipping pass the advancing custodian McKliesh to score the third and final goal.
Donald Stewart was voted the games ”Most Valuable Player” as the Harbour View diehards left smiling broadly and looking forward to the Christmas Season while Arnett Gardens continue to reconstruct their winning formula that made them former double Champions of the Premier League.
Harbour View leads the league with 42 points clearly 11 points ahead of the second placed Waterhouse.
On Sunday, December 18, 2005 Harbour View travels to Seba United of Montego Bay the Under 21 at 3:30pm and the Premier League 6:00pm in the sixth game of Round Two.
