Harbour View are now two wins away from retaining the Jamaica Yellow Pages/KSAFA Jackie Bell Knockout title following a comfortable 3-0 win over Super League outfit UWI in yesterday’s quarter-final encounter at the Harbour View Stadium.

The Stars of the East got their goals courtesy of Donovan Edwards (16th), Ranique Muir (76th) and Kemar Lawrence (76th).

Harbour View, who are tied with Arnett Gardens for the most titles – six – will meet August Town in the semi-finals. August Town scored a 1-0 extra-time win over Barbican in yesterday’s other match.

Boys’ Town and Tivoli Gardens will contest the other semi-final following 2-1 and 1-0 victories on Wednesday over Arnett Gardens and Cavalier, respectively.

The four semi-finalists are guaranteed at least $100,000, which is the payout to the fourth-place team. Third will pocket $150,000, with $200,000 going to second and the eventual winners walking away with the trophy and $350,000.

Harold Thomas, head coach of Harbour View, is looking forward to the semi-final match-up.

“We are confident, but we are taking it a game at a time, so we look forward to the next game,” Thomas said. “Another opportunity to retain our title is good, but August Town are a dangerous team like all the Premier League teams, so we have to prepare for it.”

controlled the game

League leaders Harbour View showed every bit of their class as their controlled the game from referee Andre Farquharson’s opening whistle. They took a deserved lead in the 16th minute, as Edwards was played through on goal by Dejanni Isaacs and he waltzed his way past two players, before hammering past Amal Knight in August Town’s goal.

Knight was forced to leave the game in the 37th minute after breaking the index finger on his left hand while attempting to prevent Harbour View’s Brian Brown from getting on the score sheet.

Despite the result, UWI’s coach, Marcel Gayle, was satisfied with what he saw from his team.

“I am pleased with my guys; I think they played well,” Gayle said. “We just made a couple mistakes and that cost us the game.”
