Harbour View Football Club will begin their hunt for a third hold on the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.

In the first of the Zone 3 matches at the Harbour View Stadium, Alpha United of Guyana tackle Trinidad Defence Force at 5:30 p.m.

The four clubs are competing for a spot in the semi-final round of the competition.

“We have not been able to get much information on our opponents in the group. However, we know that Suriname always produces good players, so the team is mentally ready,” coach of Harbour View, Harold Thomas, told The Gleaner, yesterday.

“We have won the title twice and the focus is on winning the Caribbean title and moving onto the CONCACAF stage,” Thomas added.

Harbour View won the CFU Club title in 2004 and 2007 and are among 13 teams competing for this year’s title.

Another local club, Waterhouse FC, will compete in the Haiti-based Zone Two against home team Miribalais, Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe and Trinidad and Tobago’s Caledonia AIA.

Zone One features Bodden Town of Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico’s Bayamon and CuraƧao’s and Centro Dominguito. The winners of each zone will join defending champions Valencia of Haiti in the semi-finals next month.

TWO-TIME former champions Harbour View FC will begin the hunt for their third hold on the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship when the 2014 season kicks off today.

Guyana’s Alpha United FC will do battle against Defence Force FC of Trinidad & Tobago in the 5:30 pm kick-off.

The local-based club will host all games in Group Three at the Harbour View Stadium.

Meanwhile, Group One is set to be staged at Bayamon FC in Puerto Rico, while Group Two is slated for the home of Association Sportive de Mirebalais in Petion Ville, Haiti.

Another Jamaican outfit, Waterhouse FC, will feature in Group Two and will play their first game against Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe, also today.

The top-placed club in each of the three four-team groups progresses to the final round of qualifying.

Defending champions Valencia is the 13th team competing in the CFU Club competition and have been given a bye into the final round because of their performances in last season’s CFU Club Championship and CONCACAF Champions League. They are set to feature in one of the two semi-final games.

The final round play-off is scheduled for April 16-21 at a venue yet to be announced. Two teams will advance to the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League.
