We’d like to take a moment to highlight these 4 former HVFC and national players who proudly wore the gold & blue last season but sadly won’t be seen on the pitch this year: ‘The Field Marshall’ many-time Captain Montrose Phinn, ‘The Fitness’ Joel Senior, ‘The Air Force’ Damion Stewart, and ‘The Defense Wall’ Ian Goodison.

Montrose Phinn – Affectionately called ‘Captain Marvellous’ by some spectators, ‘Grinch’ has often times been handed the role of motivating the team, a role which he wore with pride on and off the field. A leader, he could be described as a jovial and humble individual, who held himself and the team at a high standard. Montrose was voted by fans in an online poll for ‘best leadership’ a couple seasons ago in our casual ‘HVFC Fan Awards’.He was endorsed by club sponsors, Grace Foods, and was selected as a brand ambassador. He made his international debut for Jamaica in 2011 and has had 3 caps for the country.

Joel Senior – Joel joined HVFC in 2011, after completing his studies at James Madison University in Virginia, USA. While in the USA, he played football for Real Maryland Monarchs in the United Soccer League before returning home to Jamaica. An influential midfielder & person, Joel could be described as a calm, professional player whose energy on the field was second to none. Joel was voted by fans in an online poll as the ‘most professional’ & ‘most energetic’ player. He too was a brand ambassador for Grace Foods, along with teammate Montrose Phinn. He captained the Reggae Boyz under-20 team under the late Coach David “Wagga” Hunt. He was also a part of the national senior programme, with 7 caps for Jamaica.

Damion Stewart – During his offseason from the Malaysia Premier League, ‘Stew Peas’ didn’t choose to use his vacation time to laze around, but instead returned to the pitch to dock the colours of his Jamaican team once more. He played for us as a defensive stalwart from 1999 – 2006, where he helped us to lift the Premier League trophy in 2000 and CFU Club Championship in 2004. Dominant in the air and forceful on the ball, 10 years later he was still able to command opponents’ respect while playing for us. From 1999–2012 he had an impressive 57 caps for Jamaica, scoring 3 goals.

Ian Goodison – ‘Pepe’ joined the squad last season, after finishing his international career at Tranmere Rovers FC. With 10 years and over 300 games under his belt at his Birkenhead club, who hosted a game in his honour to say goodbye to their beloved ‘soldier’, it’s an understatement that their loyal fan base was a little more heart-broken after learning he had left yet was able to still wreak havoc on the pitch. Playing under the guidance of his former national teammate, Coach Ricardo Gardner, he continued to be a force to be reckoned with on the field as he used his experience and assertion to dismiss opponents. Though not the most talkative person, his confidence and presence could never easily be ignored, on or off the field. He made his debut for the Jamaica national team in a 1996 friendly while representing lower KSAFA Division club, Olympic Gardens FC and immediately scored his first international goal. Goodison holds Jamaica’s all-time national team record of 120 caps, including 10 goals; 45 of those games were in FIFA World Cup qualification and in the country’s only World Cup appearance, in 1998.

You all have always put your best foot forward, inspiring players & officials alike.
