HVFC Premier League team travelled to Florida for a two day stay at the Holiday Inn to play Haitian Premier League team Don Bosco FC in a friendly match. The game was staged in Fort Lauderdale at the Ansin Sports Complex, Miramar at 8pm on Friday May 16th.

The Haitian Flag Day celebration in the inaugural staging of “The Friendship Cup” was a bonding of both nations through sports, arts and culture to raise funding for charities in the Broward county area in Florida, USA under the distinguished patronage of Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.

The game was preceded by a opening match between DJs, celebrities and entertainers with the likes of Harbour View resident Anthony ‘Michi’ Fairclough from the duo of Michigan and Smiley, Wyclef Jean, and other well-known figures.

HVFC departed early Thursday morning and are expected to return Saturday night to close off the season as the Premier League’s first round champions, second overall on points standings with 56 points, CHEC Star Coach of round one Harold Thomas, leading goal scorer Brian Brown and knockout and league semi-finalists.

We drew 2-2 in our friendly game after giving up two early goals in the 6th and 11th minutes but Dicoy Williams slammed home from inside the penalty area after a cross by Xavian Virgo in minute 38. Substitute Shamar Shelton found the equalizer in minute 76 with a well-taken drive from the left side of the box from another good cross by Virgo.

The inaugural Friendship Cup was shared.

We are grateful for the invitation and experience, many thanks to all coordinators.
