HARBOUR VIEW FC opens CONCACAF Champions League at Home against PUMAS of Mexico on Thursday, August 28th!

The Regional Club Competitions History:

The historical significance of the longest running Caribbean Club Competition since 1978 is known for its competitive standard.

Jamaica's Harbour View FC first participated in 1986.

On Friday, November 17th 2007, Jamaica's Harbour View FC claimed their second Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship after defeating Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago by a score of 2:1 in the final at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Trinidad.

The only Jamaican Club to ever achieve the feat of winning this competition twice and winning it in Trinidad was a bonus.

The second Caribbean crown earned Harbour View FC the berth to the 2008 CONCACAF Champions Cup™ quarterfinals played earlier this year in March against DC United and the newly created and improved 2008 CONCACAF Champions™ League™ scheduled to begin on August 28, 20008 in Jamaica against PUMAS UNAM of Mexico.

The New Competitions Structure:

Harbour View maintained their vice-grip hold on the Sherwin Williams Colourscape Knockout competition after brushing aside Waterhouse 2-1 at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

The Vin Blaine-coached Harbour View is the only team to have its name engraved on the trophy for the five years of its existence.

The 'Stars of the East' walked away with the $50,000 winning prize for a deserving win, while Waterhouse pocketed $35,000.

Defender Jennifer Williams gave Harbour View the lead in the 30th minute, converting from a corner kick in a goalmouth melee.

National captain Taniesha Vassell, playing in a more advanced role, doubled the advantage in the 57th minute after collecting a ball just inside the box and firing past the advancing Nicola Linton in goal.

Harbour View, with national players Shakira Duncan, Kimmia Parker, Peta Gaye Soman, Stacy-Ann Johnson, Natasha Douglas and Shanique Mitchell, dominated and should have killed off the game from midway the second half.

But their profligacy in front of goal ensured a nervous finish after Christina Murray curled in a beautiful free-kick in the 89th minute.

Nevertheless, Harbour View held on for the win and coach Blaine was a relieved and happy man.

Said Blaine: "We did what we had to do and that is win the game. I knew that Waterhouse will run at us hard, they have always done that."

He continued: "You have to give credit to Waterhouse because we were stretched, but we stood up. In the last 20 minutes we dropped off a bit, soaked up the pressure and tried to counter and we should have got two goals from that and kill the game."

As for coach Xavier Gilbert, it was another painful defeat to Harbour View in the knockout final.

Said Gilbert: "We started out a little lacklustre and weren't aggressive to the ball then we settled, but a couple of mistakes let them in the game.

"We looked much better as a team coming forward, but they played better than us, they matched up better and it took us too long to get in the game," he added.

The knockout was contested by seven Premier League teams and four from the A league.

The league will start on Thursday with Waterhouse trying to defend their crown.

Harbour View Football Club of Jamaica with three goals coming from the leagues leading goalscorer, Shakira Duncan with seven goals another from Kimmia Parker and the other from team-mate Natasha Douglas.

The Female "Stars of the East" has now scored 22 goals without conceding after four games, and look to carry their rich goal-scoring record unscathed throughout the tournament by lifting the trophy after tomorrow's rest day.

RESULTS, July 3, 2008

In the first quarter-final match-up, Thursday evening, July 3, a Tigress defensive blunder, late in the second half, gave the defending champions, Villa Lions, the only goal, to send the Ottos Tigress packing, as the 7th Annual CPTSA Female Football Tournament continued at the YASCO Sports Complex.

The ball came off team-mate Shonette Simon due to a bunching in the Tigress 18 yards box. Neither team was able to legitimately find the net all evening, despite 12 shots on goal from Ottos Tigress and 8 shots from Villa Lions.

In the second game, Harbour View Football Club of Jamaica hammered

5P’s 50. Three of the goals came from Kimmia Parker, and tthe other two from team-mate striker, Shakira Duncan. 5P’s only got off 3 shots at goal.

The Jamaicans will now face Villa Lions in the first semi-final match-up on Friday evening, July 4, at 7:30 p.m. Before that, SAP will take on Wings in their quarter final clash starting at 6:00 p.m.

A second thumping of the opponents puts the females in a prominent position at the top of the zone.

Two goals by Astacya McIntyre and one each from Georgette White, J'Vonelle Simpson, Shakira Duncan, Taniesha Vassell and Marvette Tulloch means Harbour View advances to tomorrow's quarterfinal.

CPTSA FEMALE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

The 7th Annual CPTSA Female Football Tournament was officially opened on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the YASCO Sports Complex.

Addressing the teams were President of the CPTSA, Lucaso Brumant, representative of the main sponsors-Dettol, Mark Thomas, newly elected President of the ABFA, Everton (Batow) Gonzalves, and Director of Sports, Mervyn Richards.

In the first encounter, SAP and defending champions, Villa Lions, played to a nil all draw. Although Villa Lions outplayed SAP with some 21 shots on goal, mainly through Eta James and Quanise Colbourne, neither could find the net. SAP’s had only 2 attempts on goal.

It means that Villa Lions will remain the #1 seed of their zone, while SAP will try to get ahead when they face 5P’s on Wednesday evening, starting at 6:00 p.m.

In the second game, the visiting Harbour View Football Club of Jamaica put on a clinic for the Otos Tigres, hammering them 5 – Nil, all goals coming in the first half.

Otos Tigres custodian, Denesia King was left helpless as the Jamaicans stuck the net in the 6th, 8th, 10th, 16th, and a penalty in the 24th minute of the first half. Two assists came from Natasha Douglas and one from Shanique Mitchell.

However, the Otos Tigres girls re-grouped in the second half and were able to keep the Jamaicans at bay with better defensive play.

The Jamaicans had an overall 16 shots on goal, while Tigress only managed to get off one shot on the Jamaican’s goal by Toyann Bennett.

The 7th Annual CPTSA Female Football Tournament continues on Wednesday evening: 6:00p.m – 5P’s VS SAP, and at 7:30 p.m., CPTSA Wings play Harbour View Football Club of Jamaica.

The Tournament is sponsored by Dettol, Harney Motors, ANICOL, GIGI Industries & Oasis Water.

Harbour View Football Club's Female Team travels to Antigua!

The Harbour View Football Club has been invited to the 7th Annual Antigua CPTSA Female Football Tournament that is scheduled for July 1 - 7, 2008.

We thank the Jamaica Biscuit Company for their kind support in this important venture. Our Female 2007 double Champion Team and leader over the last four years are seeking to broaden their level of competitiveness throughout the region by actively playing in international tournaments rarely staged in the Caribbean.

More importantly we look at exposing our young ladies who are given very few opportunities to travel outside of the island as a group of ambassadors in a competitive environment, for the first time as any Jamaican Club.

The squad of mostly teenagers, would gain invaluable lifestyle experiences through interfacing with females from many different lands, families and sports enthusiasts in the region to form necessary principles of development in shaping proper behavioral habits.

The squad is:

1.  Kerise Heywood 13. Peta-Gaye Soman
2. Stacy-Ann Johnson 14. Shelliana johnson
3. Jennifer Williams 15. Shakira Duncan
4. Kerry-Ann Edwards 16. Shanique Mitchell
5. Tyeisha Grant 17. Marvette Tulloch
